Working with SCAG on Projects in the Coachella Valley

The Governmental Affairs section of CVAG manages transportation based
studies and projects funded by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).

The currently funded projects are focused on future growth in Southern California, and the innovative approaches to best serve this growing population, along with current data collection and review.

SCAG is the regional Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Southern California, with CVAG as one of its fourteen subregional members. SCAG provides direction and guidance for the southern California region through its governing boards by planning for future growth in the areas of transportation, housing, air quality and other environmental issues.

This year, SCAG is specifically studying forecasting and visioning for how this region will grow over the next thirty years, and how to accept and accommodate a six million increase in population. The population of the Coachella Valley is expected to double over the next thirty years.

The Governmental & Special Projects staff represents CVAG as the Subregional Coordinator for SCAG policy and committee meetings and manages SCAG funded studies reflecting growth visioning and transportation issues specific to the Coachella Valley and Blythe jurisdictions.
